Exciting, well-plotted story of a young woman who lives in a world where an inter dimensional gate connects to the realm of the Fey. She is selected to be part of a tour group going to Anowir, the first humans to enter it. But the group is attacked by Fey who oppose such contact with humans, threatening to destroy the fragile peace between the worlds.Jan discovers she isn't as human as she believed; she is a gatewright who can travel between Earth and Anowir at will. Now she must navigate deadly Fey politics and seek to stop an angry Earth from starting a devastating war which would pit military technology against powerful magic.
She has allies among the Fey, especially a charismatic and gifted clan heir who she is falling for and her friend Jack, who was exiled from Anowir unjustly and longs to return and reclaim his family and his magic. Her human family and friends are also wondering what's going on, and her gatewright father has been in touch, promising to teach her about her power.
The characters are real and sympathetic and keep the reader engaged. You'll want to follow them, which is fortunate, because the story doesn't end here. I'll be waiting impatiently for the next installment.

A fun read! Imaginative setting, interesting characters, a well-paced story, plus a good dollop of humor. I'm looking forward to more!
A really good first novel. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the series.
I haven’t often been able to read a good series of novels in-between endless textbooks, but I was quickly drawn into the intriguing characters and engaging writing style of Gatewright. It offers a refreshing story-line with sympathetic characters that make this human-fey world feel believable. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
