I enjoyed the narrator. She did a very nice job.

This is the unsatisfying fourth and I assume final book in the series. I had hoped for for a good wrap-up and happy ending for the characters, but that didn't happen. We got a sort-of wrap-up with Rose showing up and asking Harry to marry her -- but -- they've been engaged and un-engaged throughout the whole series, so -- to me it wasn't a real ending.

The mystery part of the book as okay, but for a hero and heroine who are supposed to be exceptionally smart, they do some really, really, really dumb stuff.

Rose thinks Harry is having an affair with one of his clients. She is surprised that she feels jealousy. So, she goes to the woman's home and demands to see her. Then, Rose is found over the woman's dead body. She's blamed for the murder -- and the real murderer keeps trying to kill her and keep her blamed for the original murder.

I'd really like to see one more book that shows the wedding and maybe them getting along and investigating another mystery. It all just feels unfinished for everybody concerned in the series.

The Edwardian Mysteries of MC Beaton are not in the same ball park as the Hamish McBeth series - but nevertheless run a close second.
Edwardian mystery includes wit and humor in its plot twists.
This particular book, Our Lady of Pain An Edwardian Murder Mystery, is the fourth in a series of books by Marion Chesney. The first three books were published that way; however, this fourth book was published as being authored by M. C. Beaton (a pseudonym of Marion Chesney). This kind of craziness on the part of the publisher is stupidity in action . I just happened on the book at and realized it was the book I was seeking. What was the publisher thinking?
The book itself was charming as are all of Ms. Chesney's tales. I just wanted to read the conclusion of the series..
I chose a "4 stars" rating because, although I liked the story and have read all those concerning Rose, I have read both books that flowed better. This is a lovely story, especially the last page. I would like to follow Rose through her marriage and beyond. Does she keep helping her sleuth? Does she have children? Do she and her friend remain friends or do the social class difference put an end to their friendship?
I love this series! She always leaves me wanting more! I was pleased with the ending this time and I hope the author continues with the angle of keeping Harry and Rose together. They need to get married and run the detective agency together! Any more twist between Harry and Rose will cause readers to lose interest. I really think Harry and Rose as a team personally and professonally could be fun. I was confused/disappointed with Daisy's character this time. I'm not sure where the author is going with her. We have watched this wonderful transformation of Daisy coming from a hard life and learning to be a "proper lady". I have also loved watching the love between her and Beckett blossom. However, this book brought her back to the behavors of her roots and then some from start to finish. I was very disappointed! So, I'm anxious to see why the author did that. It totally changed my impressions of Daisy and what I was hoping for her. But overall, it was great and I will be anxiously awaiting the next book.
Enjoyable read. You want to keep reading, not just to know "who did it", but just to continue the personal story of the main characters.
Lady Rose gets involved in more murder and mayhem with rescues by the captain. The plot ranges from London to France to Scotland and back again. Subplots involve Daisy and Beckett and after much turmoil a happy ending for all.
This is the fourth book in the author's Edwardian murder mystery series of books. While I have enjoyed them all in varying degrees, this one is the weakest of the lot. Although it features Lady Rose Summer and Captain Harry Cathcart with their off again, on again engagement, the story has a difficult time getting totally off the ground and engaging the reader.

Once again, Lady Rose gets herself in trouble when, in a fit of jealousy, she threatens to kill one of Captains Cathcart's clients, the beguiling Parisian temptress Dolores Duval. When Madame Duval turns up dead, Lady Rose becomes the number one suspect. Of course, Captain Cathcart does his utmost to clear his intended's name, while Lady Rose finds herself under attack by person or person's unknown.

All in all, it is a somewhat choppy affair that could have used some better editing, as the book goes hither and thither. Moreover, there a back story involving Lady Rose's companion, Daisy, and Captain Cathcart's manservant, Becker, that takes up a bit of the story. While it is a light and frothy little mystery, the characters were somewhat annoying this time around and not as enjoyable as in the earlier books. Still, fans of the author will derive a modicum of enjoyment from the book.
