The reason betwn the 2 lovers to be separated in this book was a bit weak. Aline couldnt fathom that McKenna wudnt luv her beyond her leg scars from a fire, so she played the part of trying to persuade McKenna that she didnt want him b/c of his lower class status. She didnt want pity, even though this wonderful man loved her for over 12 damn years! Like this wasnt convincing enough?!? The plot isnt very original. It cud of been 200pgs.

If one compares "French Lessons" by Laura Kinsale to this book, one will see, LK's romantic drama is WAaaaaay superior & humorous! In French Lessons, its the same basic story of rich gal falls for the poor guy, but the way its played out, is so much more creative than this book. The only thing i can say about this book is the romantic scenes betwn the 2 are very sweet, thats it, but story, not much magic, ehh.

Again The Magic Lisa Kleypas 9780380811083 Books Reviews

I have to admit, when I started reading It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2) and suddenly Westcliff had a second sister (also married to an American), I was wary. So much so that I put off reading Again the Magic (Wallflowers, #0.5) until the very end. And without much expectation.

I am happy to be wrong. This installment was my favorite. Not only was Aline and McKenna's story the most tragic and therefore capable of ending in the most happiness, but there was the secondary plot that revealed the "scandal" that had been alluded to concerning Olivia and also gave insight into her and Gideon's courtship.

Lovely. Lovely, lovely )
Really like this author. She reminds me of Kathleen Woodiwiss' work - a favorite author. I have read all of Ms. Woodiwiss' books, unfortunately she died a few years ago. Kleypas' books hold my interest and usually develop a story about a family that you are able to continue through several volumes. Really like the setting in Kleypas books in old England and the way Kleypas reseaches the locations, food, etc. to bring it to life. If you like historical romance books - read Lisa Kleypas books.
This was my second time around reading "Again the Magic "and it was still good, I don't remember if the first time I read the series I started with this one but if you are like me and you are getting ready to read the new Kleypas book the "the Devil in Spring" and you want to refresh your memory it's a good idea to start with this.
It was a very good read with a compelling story line because of it's characters, you have the romance of two sisters who for that time period were flawed it's great to see how they make their way to their HEA it is a bumpy road for them. The Heroes were dealing wth their own major demons. Lisa Kleypas brings many real life issues to the story like death, discrimination, alcoholism, narrow mindedness, Family relationships, two wonderful and steamy romances.
So if you are in the mood for an emotional romance of second chances and redemption this should be your next read!
The premise and the beginning had so much potential.... then it just got stupid. I can't stand when there is that one issue that the heroine believes makes her incapable of being loved and it actually isn't THAT big a deal- not to risk all of your future happiness and that of someone you love. The beginning was romantic, and I usually love a star-crossed lovers theme, but I feel like the sweet chemistry between the two is instantly destroyed by all the unrealistic trysts where she won't show her legs. I also disliked the side story of her sister- I personally feel like that's a cop out on the part of character development - you either have enough to say about the main couple to write a book about them or you don't. I can see how some people would love this, but I've seen the wrong side of the tracks guy done much, much better. I also thought the brother's attitude towards his sisters' sexually doings was too progressive for the times to be believable.
3 1/2 stars---Primary romance is Aline & McKenna. Secondary plotline is start of her sister, Livia & her lover Gideon.

Aline's has stayed in love with her childhood friend, McKenna. But 12 years ago she deliberately lied about her feelings to push him away for his own protection.

After making his fortune abroad, McKenna is unable to forget the hateful words that sent him away and returns for revenge. Aline realizes his vengeful motive but cannot resist him. She is tempted to tell him truth of her feelings and reason for deceit. Unfortunately she is terrified of revealing another secret- an incident which left her scarred and insecure.

Livia (younger sister) plays pivotal role in both plotlines. From her, McKenna learned truth of
Aline's hurtful actions that drove him to leave. However Livia will not reveal secret that keeps Aline from admitting her love.
Aline struggles with the revelation due to insecurity. Her fears lead to her repeating past actions and driving him away with ugly words. At last moment she pursues him, finally finding courage to be honest. HEA shortly follows.

Shortfalls of story are all related to Aline's character. Although to protect McKenna, she initiated separation with hurtful lies. Then she repeats past actions because of secret fears. Her angst, insecurities carry on so long that I lost sympathy for her plight.

In the end I wondered (as did the hero) how Alina could doubt his love.
At his immediate forgiveness, McKenna's faith in Aline seemed to surpass her's in him. Unfortunately, I felt it also surpassed what she deserved.

I do look forward to reading more about Livia's romance. In comparison, she seemed more honest, courageous, and likable than her sister.
